RCYD was very active during the 2004 and 2008 election years, holding debate parties, registering voters, phone banking and canvassing for democratic candidates, and attending democratic events around the state. In 2007 members made it to the California Democratic Convention in San Diego, and in 2008 Riverside Young Dems attended the California Young Democrats convention in Lake Tahoe and Mayor Villaraigosa’s election party in LA.
Unfortunately, many of these members were high school students who then left Riverside for college. Now, our new board is a bit older, wiser, and more established in Riverside. The group, while still happy to include high school students, is also interested in involving local college students and young professionals in Riverside. We want to become a strong force in the next election and remain an important democratic group in Riverside for many years to come.
For now, we are working on raising awareness that we are here and ready to get things done in Riverside. This summer, we will be hosting local politicians and facing off with the Riverside County Young Republicans in a baseball game. Come out and help us show that Riverside’s young democrats are ready to have our voices heard.
